WASHINGTON, D.C.

Politics and Prose is sponsoring a monthly writing group on the first Sunday of each month. We will focus on autobiography as well as fiction, and concentrate on story structure and voice. We will be working with two texts: Tristine Rainer's Your Life as Story (Penguin, $14.95) and Patricia Hampl's I Could Tell You Stories (Norton, $13.00). Space is limited, so please e-mail Karen Maloy at kemaloy@hotmail.com to reserve a spot.

How do I start a journal writing group or a memoir club in my own neighborhood?

Ask your bookstore, community center, senior center, church or synagogue if they will give you space to hold meetings and help publicize the gathering.

When you register with CAS, you can leave your E-mail address and the name of the town or neighborhood you live in so that others with an interest in autobiographic writing will be able to find you in the future. Return in a few weeks to this page for further help with forming your own memoir club.
